Angela Evelyn Bassett is an American actor from the United States. Her work has earned her recognition by the media and for her television performance since the 1980s. The awards she has won include two Golden Globe Awards, sixteen NAACP Image Awards as well as nominations for Academy Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett was raised by her aunt in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Her birthplace was and grew up at home in New York New York. Bassett along with her sister, and their mother were moved from the city of Winston-Salem to St. Petersburg Florida when Bassett was five. Their father had split from the mother of their children. Bassett was in high school when saw the James Earl Jones staring John Steinbeck production Of Mice and Men and was aware that her goal to become an actor come true.
